Indian National Highways

India has a vast national highway system. The national highway system spans 70,548 kilometres. Indian highways account for 2% of the country’s total road network and transport 40% of all traffic. The National Highway Authority of India, which is in charge of highway development and maintenance, oversees the whole Indian highway network.

NH7 is India’s longest highway, stretching from Varansi in Uttar Pradesh to Kanyakumari in the country’s southernmost point. The shortest highway is NH47A, which runs from Ernakulam to Kochi and is only 4 kilometres long.
